Tuīná (推拿) is a form of Chinese bodywork that has been continuously developed over the course of Chinese medical history. Tuīná (pronounced "tway-nah") means "pushing and pulling" and is used much in the same way as other forms of bodywork although the techniques integrate the wisdom of Chinese medical theories into the treatments.
There are many different techniques used in Tuīná in order to influence the body's tissues and energy flow in certain ways. Pressing, grasping, and rubbing are just a few of the techniques that may be employed in a normal Tuīná treatment.
Pain management and musculoskeletal trauma are the most common reasons people use Tuīná. Tuīná, however, can be used to treat a much wider range of conditions including:
Depending on the condition being treated, certain herbal preparations may be applied topically or be prescribed for internal use to enhance the therapeutic effect of Tuīná treatment.
Tuīná is usually performed with clothing on, although certain conditions or if topical preparations are being used may require one to remove some clothing. Our practitioners value your privacy and proper draping measures will always be taken when clothing need be removed.
